Hi, my name is Paul DeCarlo and I am self employed as a REALTOR(r) with RE/MAX Southern Homes in the Hoover | Birmingham Alabama area..

I moved to Helena Alabama from Florida many years ago and was shocked to find such a wonderful place that is certainly a secret to most people in the country. I have lived in South Carolina, Michigan, Louisiana, and Florida to name a few. And of all these places, I have enjoyed the Birmingham area more than any previous location.

I am over 40 years old (yikes!), and a 1994 graduate from The Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Science. My major concentrations were Economics and Political Science. Immediately after graduation, I opened a small restaurant in Charleston, South Carolina which I later sold. It was a successful business in a very tough industry.

For the past 10 years, I invested in real estate and found rental units a stable and steady source of income.

My former employers include State Farm Insurance and Parisian. I was a computer trainer and web developer with these companies. Web development is a great hobby and serves as an invaluable tool for my business. I created this web site, in fact, and it receives over 8,000 hits per day!

Helping buyers and sellers with their real estate needs is a great career. It's a very good feeling when I'm able to find a home for a family that fits their needs, or help a seller prepare their home for the market and sell it for the highest market dollar available.

My hobbies include riding my Specialized / Tarmac road bike, jogging, traveling the world, snow skiing, and spending time at most any lake. Web design is still a business hobby and is an integral part of my real estate company. I also enjoy visiting family in various parts of the country whenever possible and rooting for my favorite college team, The Florida State University Seminoles!. I was one of Helena Alabama's youngest elected officials at 29 years old. I ran a successful campaign and was elected by the people of Helena, Alabama as City Councilman, Place #1 and served the public for 4 years. I decided not to run again so that I could focus my attention to real estate, however, I'm still very active in politics, but remain less visible than when I was a public servant.

Paul has received awards including the "100% Club", "Club of Excellence" and was awarded the "Cooperative Spirit Award" by his fellow agents at RE/MAX Southern Homes.

Paul DeCarlo achieved the "Million Dollar" mark within his first six month's of real estate sales, and the"Multi-Million Dollar" mark in his first 12 months. His average home sold for about $200,000. Paul's business has grown every year.

Since starting his real estate career, Paul has been awarded by the Birmingham Association of Realtors in the Bronze Club and Silver Club, and has earned the 100% Club award through RE/MAX every year.

CAHABA RIVER CLEANUP

The Cahaba River is one of Alabama's great natural resources. Folks from around the country run many stretches of the river in canoes and kayaks. Unfortunately, the river has become a dumping ground. But, the river is still mostly a clean natural resource. Mother Nature plays a part in the demise of the river as well. Trees block many areas of the waterway preventing boaters from passing.
